Macon, GA – Gray Highway Will Get New Pedestrian Crosswalks In Efforts To Decrease Pedestrian Fatalities

Macon, GA (August 28, 2023) – To make crossing more secure, a number of little concrete islands, known as medianettes, are planned to be constructed across Gray Highway and Shurling Drive in Macon, GA.

New safety measures are being added to one of Georgia’s worst highways for pedestrians. Several medianettes are proposed along the congested Gray Highway and Shurling Drive to assist people in crossing more safely.

Five medianettes are scheduled to be erected for pedestrians, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The six-inch-tall, eight-foot-wide medianettes are designed to reduce speeding and improve pedestrian safety.

Bibb County Coroner Lean Jones commented, “We are all in this together; this is one Macon. If we can save one person, we’ve done something”

Gray Highway is one of the most dangerous roads in Bibb County for pedestrians. Jones claims that 16 pedestrians were tragically struck by vehicles in 2021, and 15 pedestrians died in 2022. In 2023, seven pedestrian fatalities had occurred as of August 24, 2023.

According to Bibb County Commissioner Elaine Lucas, people trying to cross these congested, high-speed roads will at least be able to proceed to the road’s halfway point and then have a safe area to halt.

Lucas hopes to reduce the number of pedestrian fatalities by serving on the Pedestrian Safety Review Board. According to Lucas, Gray Highway, Shurling Drive, Eisenhower Parkway, and Pio Nono Avenue are undergoing tremendous construction. “These are state roads where we have been losing the majority of our citizens,” said Lucas.

The cost of the roadwork has not yet been put out to bid. Still, the Georgia Department of Transportation estimated it would be around $200,000 to complete and anticipated to start sometime in 2024.

I met with Harry Brown personally and he sat with me for 20 minutes at our initial consultation to explain everything. He even called after my surgery to see how I was doing. I met with him several more times after that and was kept informed about my case throughout. I highly recommend Harry Brown as an attorney.

Pedestrian Accidents in Georgia

Accidents involving pedestrians pose a serious threat. Because a car can seriously hurt an unprotected person even at a slow speed, they are typically more serious than other types of accidents. The likelihood of pedestrian fatalities rises as a result. Almost all accidents involving pedestrians result in injuries, and many of them cause wrongful deaths.

Accidents involving pedestrians are looked into and handled similarly to accidents involving vehicles. The law allows accident victims and their families to pursue financial compensation for any losses sustained as a direct result of the accident.

Despite usually having the right of way, accidents are sometimes blamed on pedestrians. Even if they sustain severe injuries as a result of the collision, pedestrians who cross the street illegally, unexpectedly, and without warning may be partially or entirely to blame.

The driver of the car may be entitled to compensation for costs incurred as a result of the collision, such as the price of having the car repaired if the pedestrian was to blame for it.

When a vehicle strikes a pedestrian, the driver is usually found to be at least partially to blame. This is due to the fact that it is the responsibility of the driver to keep an eye out for pedestrians.
