Atlanta, GA Officer Hit by Drunk Driver While Trying to Arrest Suspect

Atlanta, GA (December 6, 2022) – In Atlanta early on Tuesday, December 6, a suspected drunk driver struck an officer and the person he was pursuing, sending both of them to the hospital, according to police and local media.

According to the Atlanta Police Department, the incident occurred at around 12 am close to Jonesboro Road as the officer attempted to arrest a man threatening a woman with a gun at a nearby gas station.

Authorities say that an officer chased the accused suspect into the woods and onto a street with oncoming traffic.

WSB-TV reported that as the chase continued, multiple cars came to a halt, but an intoxicated driver went around the vehicles and hit the officer and the man he was trying to arrest.

Police said the officer was injured and was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The police haven’t named him yet, but WGCL-TV says he has been with the department for four years.

The Atlanta police reported that the suspect from the original 911 call was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries and faces multiple charges, including obstruction and discharging a controlled substance.

The driver of the vehicle that hit the officer was not injured and was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, DUI Less Safe, too fast for conditions, reckless driving, erratic lane change, and two counts of serious injury by vehicle.

I met with Harry Brown personally and he sat with me for 20 minutes at our initial consultation to explain everything. He even called after my surgery to see how I was doing. I met with him several more times after that and was kept informed about my case throughout. I highly recommend Harry Brown as an attorney.

Pedestrian Accidents in Georgia

A pedestrian is anyone walking along a sidewalk or road without a car. This can be joggers, people waiting for the bus, people crossing the street, or students walking to school. It also includes people in wheelchairs and small children. Basically, a pedestrian is anyone on the road who is not driving a motor vehicle.

Accidents that involve pedestrians present a serious risk. They frequently result in more severe injuries than those involving other vehicles because even at low speeds, a car can seriously hurt an unprotected person. The majority of pedestrian accidents result in wrongful death, and almost all of them cause injuries.

Accidents involving pedestrians are handled the same as collisions involving motor vehicles. Accident victims and their families are legally entitled to pursue compensation for any losses sustained as a result of the accident.

Despite the fact that they typically have the right of way, pedestrians are occasionally held accountable for the accident. Even if they sustained severe injuries due to the collision, pedestrians who cross the street illegally, unexpectedly, and without warning might be partially or entirely at fault if they are struck by a vehicle.

Sometimes the driver is partially to blame for the collision with the pedestrian. This is because it is the duty of motorists to pay attention to pedestrians and, when necessary, yield to them.

If you or someone you love was involved in a pedestrian accident and you believe it was the driver’s fault, make sure you contact a Pedestrian Accident Attorney for legal help.
